Chinawhite
6 Air Street, Soho, London W1B 5AA England; Tel. +44 (0)20 7343 0040
Ubertrendy, Moroccan-themed London dance club serving up alternative and R&B DJ music to a fashionable crowd salted with models, actresses and the occasional genuine celebrity. While not quite as exclusive as it once was, its still takes some juice to secure a position on Chinawhite's famously strict guest list. If you're not well connected, a concierge at one of the hipper hotels can probably pull the right string, for which he or she should be appropriately tipped.

Funkybuddha touts itself as "A vibrant and uplifting club" that's "exclusive" and "sophisticated" and has attracted A-list partyers like Jade Jagger and P Diddy. Funkybuddha provides its fashion- and status-conscious patrons with private rooms, expensive cocktails and a menu of modern Chinese cuisine. Music mix encompasses funky soul/house and R&B. There is, of course, guest list-only admission, a dress code (no jeans) and cover charge. Open 10pm-3am Monday to Saturday.

Projections, video screens and light shows assure the experience won't be boring even if the conversation turns dull. Adjoins Mourad Mazouz's Gallery and Restaurant and the ultra modernist Egg bar. Open noon - 2am (East bar: 7pm - 2am).

The End

Underground: Holborn or Tottenham Court Road
Legendary Bloomsbury DJ dance music venue spinning a mix of techno, international, funk and numerous variations of electronic music. For clubbies more serious about music and dance than rubbernecking celebrities or making fashion statements. Near Tottenham Court Road, Holborn and Covent Garden.
Umbaba
Ganton Street, London W1F 9BN England; Tel. +44 (0)20 7734 6696
London.net review: This London hotspot is themed with the art and tribal culture of a mythological, French-speaking West African nation: Republique du Person. Umbaba's meandering tunnels and caves provide ample spaces for whatever alcohol-fueled social interaction can occur amidst the loud mainstream dance hits emanating from Umbaba's substandard sound system. House cocktails are in the £9.50 range. Nick House Entertainment hosts a Thursday night party which plays mainstream contemporary dance music and attracts a vapid but beautiful crowd.
